Catherine Oxenberg was born in New York City on September 22, 1961. Her parents were Howard Oxenberg and H.R.H. Princess Jelisaveta of Serbia, who was his first wife. Princess Olga of Greece and Denmark was her mother’s mother.
She was a legendary beauty and the sister of Princess Marina, who married the Duke of Kent, who was the uncle of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom. Princess Olga was also a first cousin of the Duke of Edinburgh (husband of Queen Elizabeth II). Her family called her Kitty, and she went to St. Paul’s School and Harvard.
Oxenberg’s career as an actress took off when she got the part of Princess Diana in the TV show “Royal Romance of Charles and Diana” on CBS. The talent agency ICM signed her right away, and Aaron Spelling soon put her in his hit TV show “Dynasty” on ABC. She went on to be in movies and TV shows like “Still Crazy Like a Fox,” “Swimsuit,” and “Trenchcoat in Paradise.” She hosted “Saturday Night Live” with Paul Simon and then took a break to finish a two-year Meisner training course with Joanne Baron. After that, she was cast in a new version of “Roman Holiday” and the FOX TV pilot “K-9000.”
She made her debut in a full-length movie with Lair of the White Worm, which starred Hugh Grant. Next, she was in two miniseries for paramount and the BBC called “Bony” and “Ring of Scorpio.” In “Charles and Diana: A Palace Divided,” she played Princess Diana again after taking some time off to have a child. Then, Oxenberg was in the TV shows “Acapulco Heat” on CBS and “Treacherous Beauties” on CBS.
She took time off again to learn how to do improv comedy with the Groundling’s Theater. Oxenberg then worked with Jon Voight in “Boys Will Be Boys” by Dom DeLuise, “Arthur’s Quest” by Sidney Furie, “Time Served” with Jeff Fahey and Louise Fletcher, “The Collectors” by Sidney Furie, and “Catch Me If You Can” with Tim Matheson.
In 1999, she starred with Michael York in “The Omega Code,” an independent movie that made the most money. The next year, Oxenberg made “Sanctimony” with Michael Pare and her husband, Casper Van Dien, for Regent Entertainment. She then made “The Flying Dutchman” with Rod Steiger and Eric Roberts, and “Perilous” with Bruce Boxleitner. Then she took a break to have two more children. Most recently, she finished “Premonition” for the Sci-fi channel. “I Married a Princess,” a reality TV show, is her most recent work (2005).
