Hailee Steinfeld was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, where she began her acting career at the age of eight. In 2010, when she was just 14 years old, Hailee received a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award nomination for her breakout role as tough-as-nails Mattie Ross in True Grit.

In 2015, she turned down the opportunity to join the Pitch Perfect musical series because she was busy filming movies like Begin Again and The End of Steve Jobs.
