ADHD creates the difference between your brain development and brain activities. ADHD symptoms are such as lack of focus or attention. Low self-control, hyperactive behavior, and impulsiveness. 

With symptoms like these, a child struggles with anxiety at home or school, poor performance, low self-esteem, and trouble maintaining relationships. They might not know what anxiety feels like, but they are dealing with it as well. 

Is There Any Treatment?

As of now, there is no treatment that can permanently cure ADHD, but there are certified ways to control them. It is treated by involving both medicines and therapy. But is best to notice ADHD and diagnose it at an early stage; this causes a huge impact on the overall treatment. 

 When treating a young kid of around 5-6 age, behavioral therapy involving the parents is important. The commitment of the parents helps a great deal during the therapy. Keeping a chart of the behavioral changes of the kid is needed, along with a progress chart. Making follow-ups with the therapist and keeping a close eye on the kid is necessary.

How Can I Help My Kid?

If you have a kid dealing with ADHD, there are ways you can help them cope with it.


  • Praise Them When They Follow Rules

Children with ADHD most of the time get criticized for not following rules or not paying attention. This affects a lot on their self-esteem. So whenever they are following rules, praise them and let them know they did something good. This will have a positive impact on their self-esteem. 

  • Be Precise And Clear Directions 

Due to attention deficiency, they lose focus very soon. So, be very particular while giving them directions or commands. Look into their eyes or make physical contact by gently touching their arm or shoulder while talking to them. 


The directions given to them, make it short or give step by step directions. Giving long directions or statements won’t help them in any way.

  • Maintain Healthy Habits

Kids with ADHD are often given medication to keep it in control. If any change in prescription is needed, always contact your doctor first before doing anything yourself. 


Kids with ADHD tend not to follow good habits and routines, so you need to take care that they follow good healthy habits. Such as having an adequate amount of sleep daily, eating a balanced diet thrice a day, and having healthy snacks with lots of fluids a day.


 Plan a time in the day so they can let go and do some kind of physical exercise. Good and healthy daily habits always pays off when coping with ADHD.

  1. Routine Homework And Home Chores

 To make them follow a routine, create a checklist for them to follow. Things like making the bed, getting ready for school, and helping around in the house. Now every time they complete a task, tick it off. Make them create a daily planner to make them aware of all their homework and other assignments. 


  • Help Them Build Relationships And Social Skills. 

For your kids to be able to form good relationships, be a role model yourself and show how to form good relationships yourself. Every week for about two-three hours, sit with them and build a strong relationship with them without any barriers. The ability to form good relationships outside happens only when you have good relationships at home. A parent-child relationship is crucial for the child’s ability to form relationships outside. 


For younger kids, the parents should take charge of socializing them with other kids of the same age. To arrange playdates with other kids and make them engage in activities that are age-appropriate. You should help your children have at least one close friendship.

  • Control Aggression

Aggressive behavior or angry outbursts are sometimes common symptoms of ADHD. But it can be problematic sometimes. So when it becomes a problem, give “Time-outs” or punishments to let them calm down and compose themselves. 


Outbursts in public should be handled calmly, and they should be instantly removed from the and let calm down. You should let your kids understand why were they punished and realize their negative behavior. 


Do not punish for mild aggressions and disruptions; those are ways for them to release pent-up emotions. You should know which behavior to punish and which ones not. 


Being a parent of a kid with ADHD is tough and requires a lot of patience and stamina to deal with it. Give yourself breaks as well to compose yourself and for all the frustration to let out. 


You have to remember it’s your relationship with your kid that matters the most out of anything. So, overwhelm yourself and get help for yourself as well if you think you need it. You won’t be able to help your kid if you are not well yourself.
