Composition and Commercial Success

“Sand in My Boots” was penned by Hardy, Ashley Gorley, and Josh Osborne. The song is a nostalgic ballad about lost love, and it depicts the story of a worn-out cowboy who is weathering lost love and fading memories of drinking with the girl who could’ve been the one.

Months after, Morgan apologized for his racial slur controversy. The song started receiving airplay on country radio in July 2021. It debuted at number 56 on Country Airplay with 699,000 audience impressions in the week ending July 4, 2022, and became Morgan’s fifth number-one single on that chart on February 26, 2022.
